The important thing is that both must have a width of 10-15 cm, for time efficiency more than anything else.

Glue to apply to the wallcovering, it can be powdered or ready-made. The type of glue varies depending on the quality of the wallcovering: non-woven; vinyl, contract; metallics; silk; natural fibres… It can therefore either be cellulose glue or glue for heavy wallcoverings and it is essential that you use the correct one in each case. You will also need to check the instructions t osee if the glue should be applied to the wall or to the wallcovering.

A spatula to remove the air bubbles. You can use a Tupperware lid or another homemade invention, the important thing is that you can gently smooth away any bubbles on the surface.

A damp cloth to be able to wipe the wallcovering clean, although cellulose glue does not dirty or damage the paper (except for delicate natural raffia papers).

A Stanley knife to cut off the excess wallcovering. The length should always be calculated slightly longer than the height of the ceiling. The wallcovering should never be cut to the exact height of the wall, you should add at least 5 cm more as walls are often uneven.

Roller for the joins. It is not essential, but we do recommend it as it helps to increase the adhesion of the joins between panels.

Kraft paper to protect the floor. Another non-essential item, but if it’s your first time hanging wallcovering, it’s easy for the glue to drip onto the floor. This material will save you cleaning time at the end of the hanging process. Also, the paper often includes a roll of decorator’s tape, so it is very easy and fast to put in place.

Plumb line or spirit level to check wallcovering is straight and not at an angle.

Non Woven (N), Vinyl (V) and Metallics Gold (G) and Silver (S) wallcoverings are easily removable thanks to their non-woven fabric base and the cellulosic glue used for their placement. The way to do it is simple: you pull the wallcovering gently down from the top and the wallcovering will easily come away from the wall.

If the wall was previously in good condition and if you have used the correct glue, there is no reason why any marks would be left.

It’s purely to do with how long you would like to keep your wallcovering on the wall! The wallcoverings, if used in the proper way, do not have an expiration date. There are wallcoverings that are timeless and that last a lifetime, and wallcoverings whose designs will go in and out of fashion.

There is no need for an expert. You can do it yourself! You just need a brush or roller, the correct glue and a positive attitude (a 400 x 280 cm mural can easily be hung in 3 hours)! Contract quality and Raffia or natural fibre wallcoverings are more demanding to hang because the panels usually overlap and a very precise double cut must be made.

The murals arrive with numbering that must be followed to ensure that the artistic design matches perfectly. This numbering is vital and should never been cut off – you will lose the correct order of the panels. Cut them off at the end when the panels are all in place.

However, wallcoverings that are not murals arrive as one continuous roll that must be cut to the height of the wall (although never the exact height, as you may be left short). When the wallcovering is a plain design, it is easy because you do not have to question the pattern or how it fits together. However, when the wallcovering has a pattern, it is essential that the design is continuous between each panel, and it fits together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Yes, but be careful with how porous the surface is. You will need to prime the surface and we always recommend a test hanging.

There is powdered glue and ready-made glue which is already mixed with water. It is a specific type of glue for wallcoverings and is found in hardware or painting and decorating stores.

There is also a cellulose glue for light-weight wallcoverings a glue for heavy-weight wallcoverings.

The difference between them lies in the composition and strength. We always recommend reading the instructions on the rolls before hanging them to decide whether to buy one type of glue or another.

No, although we do recommend putting some protective paper or cardboard by the foot of the wall because of any glue that might drip, although wallcovering glue is easily removed with water.

It’s important that the wallcovering is hung after the space has been painted (the ceilings, doors…) and after the flooring is put down (this usually creates a lot of dust and dirt).
